Xining: Closing Day Ceremonies

The picture above are most of the kids that participated in this years 2009 Summer English Camp in Xining China. There were over 150 students spread over 9 English classes and 8 afternoon activities.

This morning concluded our summer camp. After a speech by Mr. Ah, our students began with Class 1 and showcased what they had learned. Most all of the classes performed English songs and they were very well done.

All students received a certificate and one student was selected from each class as the best English speaking student and they were honored with a special medal.

After the program there was one last song. I called Jimmy Thomas up to help me and then I had the entire camp sing “Happy Birthday” to Jimmy. I think he was a little embarrassed. The kids loved it.

After-wards, there were some tears and many email addresses being exchanged. You never know when you have influenced someone until a “Good Bye” needs to be said. Some of the old kids you could see what was happening with their somber looks. Many wanted promises of return trips. But we know who to consult for that.

For the team, we had our own sadness. Tiantian had to leave early for prior commitments back home. As young as she was, she had an impact on all of us with a smile and a willingness to go beyond the boundaries. It will be sad not seeing her with us in Beijing.

The rest of the day was spent packing and getting ready for our last meal at our favorite restaurants here in Xining.

So with that. This is the last update until our arrival in Beijing. Unless of course it is too expensive to get internet access. If that is the case then the last update will be when we return.

Until Later!
