More from Xi'an on Day 3
Dear Friends and Family,
We had a great evening last night with class activities or parties. It is exciting to see relationships being built and questions starting to come!
Chris arrived last night and we are expecting Woody, Tracey, and Bailey tonight—looking forward to their being here.
The Chinese student, Walt, who graduated from TCS also arrived last night. This situation must be very strange for him to see his TCS teacher and friends here in China teaching English!
Tonight we do not have any formal activity scheduled but several teachers are headed out to supper with students. Teachers will also do this tomorrow night as well. Sophia encourages them to “take advantage” of the Americans being here and spending some time with them to continue to work on English.
Tomorrow, Thursday, is a special day as we will have our E—ster lesson—please remember this—but you’ll have to do that today or tonight because we are 12 hours ahead of you.
Most team members are adjusting, but it seems that the older one gets, the longer it takes to change one”s sleeping time completely (remember that we are now sleeping while you are going about your daily tasks and we’re up and teaching while you’re sleeping). Also, about now is the time when some stomach “issues” begin to set in because we’ve had a daily diet of Chinese food—this is real Chinese food—not exactly the kind you get at the Hong Kong Buffet. Also, sore throats (I have one now) and colds begin creeping up from being a bit run down and going in and out of intense, sweaty heat and AC. It’s not surprising to have to adjust in these ways.
Again, I am very thankful for the team. They are working hard, building friendships, teaching lessons, running activities and games. It’s a great group! But we do covet your support for wisdom, for His working in our hearts and those of the students, for health and endurance during the heat.
More tomorrow!
Love,
Becky
