Xining is now in a Groove
Day 2 started and now it is closed. Success!
That is the best word to describe this day. Our teachers and assistants were in place and each class ran like clockwork.
Class Two had their Christmas lesson today and learned many of the traditions from America including Christmas Carolling. After learning a few songs they embarked on a tour of other classrooms to sing to them.
It was nice to hear that an older class of students started to take pictures of the mini-concert.
Upon further observation many of the classes were in small groups practicing their speaking with one another as well as classroom dialogs. It was quite the scene.
After lunch and a brief rest it was time for the afternoon activities. Compared to yesterday they ran much better with no scheduling issues.
We did have one issue with one child that was injured in Crafts. It’s not what you think. He did not eat glue or cut himself. He fell in a hole. Yes, you read that correctly. The hole was in the back of the classroom and they were lining up for pictures. When all of a sudden the child disappeared.
The teacher raced to corner to realize there was a hole there and when she looked there was the child. He raised his arms and she pulled him out. Nothing but scrapes on his arms and after his mother got there she basically told him to get over it. Then she asked if her son could still come to our evening activity. Whew!
With all of the other activities like dance or sports no one would of thought that a child could get hurt in crafts. After the incident it became comical. “A hole in one!” or “It’s like living in a game.”
Well after a quick dinner it was time to get ready for first evening activity “Hawaiin Luau”.
Our activities consisted of Limbo, Human Knot, a variation of Twister, a Hoola Hoop activity. Our activity people rotated to each group for a period of time to reduce chaos and it was effective. Still had a some behavior problems but nothing that some Lifts could’nt fix. In the background we also played some themed music and we finished up by playing Beach Volley Ball with the Americans being the net. It was quite painful because they were aiming to hit us. Ouch!
Overall, it was a good day.
Tomorrow, our last Teacher will arrive so keep him in mind as he travels to us. The word was that he was on the plane to China. Yeah!
